The Isle of Lewis and Harris, located in the Outer Hebrides off the northwest coast of Scotland remains largely untouched and sparsely populated.

This was the main reason for visiting: to view and film the wildlife in its natural state.

The islands landscape is dramatically diverse. The east coast is dominated by rocky, lunar-like terrain with countless inlets and small cove, whilst the west coast features some of the most stunning beaches in the world, with stretches of white sand and turquoise waters. When the sun comes out is really does look spectacular!

The waters surrounding Harris, particularly the Sound of Harris and areas off the west coast, are prime locations for spotting minke whales. We saw at least seven in just one morning feeding close to the shore. But possibly the most spectacular sighting was a Golden Eagle playing in the wind. Usually only seen from a great distance as a silhouette above a mountain, this particular individual flew very close to sea level.

I hope to return sometime in the next couple of years!
