The Dales Way...81 miles of Early Retirement Adventures

We all need adventures in our lives, and the Dales Way was mine for 2024. An 81 mile, multi-day solo trek across the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks of the UK. Starting in Ilkley in West Yorkshire and finishing in Bowness-on-Windermere in Cumbria, I planned to complete the walk in 5 days. Having never done anything like this before, my early retirement seemed an ideal opportunity to complete this bucket list trek that I had been thinking about for years. With bits and bobs of old camping gear and everything I needed on my back for the 5 days, with some trepidation I set off.

Join me as I review the journey, with all the highs and lows and some incredible scenery from this beautiful part of the world.

We are Richard and Jackie and we live in the UK. We retired from teaching at the age of 51 in the summer of 2022. Our plans for early requirement include relocating to the Yorkshire Dales, developing our forever home and travelling the UK, Europe and eventually the world in our VW campervan Nelson.
