Susegad | Palolem Beach | Goa | A story about experiencing the slow life

A story about a young lady who was born & raised in a city and decided to experience how life would be in a small fishing village. The village's name was Palolem. The beach beside it is Palolem Beach. This is her story captured through my eyes & her voice.

When was the last time we stopped running & start noticing the city passing by?
When was the last time we sat in a room full of office colleagues to notice how each of them is going around doing their daily work?
When was the last time we stood still to enjoy the sunset which we go on ignoring every day while we are returning from the office?

Everyone who is born in the big city never gets a chance to stop & enjoy the world revolving around them. Every one busy running the rat race. Who has the time to stop & observe?

The question to ask is that – is there any hard & fast rule that the rat race is the only form of living a fulfilling life? Is there nothing beyond the rat race?

What is life beyond the race that we are constantly running without even knowing the end goal?

I decided to move to a small fishing village in Goa. A place that was devoid of the constant honking, a place filled with people who smiled back when you smiled at them. A place where there is no weekend, there is no weekday.

Every day is a day worth living for.

Thus I continued.

A one-way ticket & not knowing when I would come back to Kolkata.

What would I do? I did not know. Where would I stay? I couldn’t know that beforehand.

The only thing I did know is that whatever would happen I would want to experience it to its fullest.

What I discovered while I was there in Palolem was something that I cannot possibly describe with the limited literary knowledge I possess.

From experiencing Susegad (Derived from the Portuguese word sossegado meaning 'quiet') to experiencing the slow way of living life.

Life should be experienced beyond just running in the rat race. If you want to experience it, you should definitely visit the small beach village of Palolem in the Canacona district of South Goa.

Hopefully, the story narrated through a fellow traveler's voice can explain how special Palolem.
