Ricky Tomlinson appeared as Bobby Grant in the first episode of Brookside on 2nd November 1982. He returned to Brookside Close as part of the Welcome to Liverpool film for Eurovision 2023.

Appearing with Ricky Tomlinson is Sue Johnston as his wife Sheila. After leaving Brookside, they were reunited as an onscreen couple in The Royle Family.

In a 1987 episode of Brookside, Sheila and Bobby visited Vatican City and were seen in shot with Pope John Paul II. There's a clip in my Brookside: Celebrity cameos' video.
