If you’re new to Alibaba or you’re already sourcing from there, this video is for you! Today’s topic is Alibaba Verified suppliers.

You might have noticed Alibaba displays a “Verified Supplier” badge on the pages of some sellers, assuring you that the supplier was verified ON SITE by a third party. This isn’t always trustworthy, it only proves that the location in the pictures is real, not that that’s the seller’s actual location.

Under Alibaba’s rules suppliers can post pictures of any factory, even if it isn’t their own, if they can prove they have been cooperating with that factory for more than 2 years, by providing invoices and contracts.
So this means any trading company that has been working with a manufacturer for more than 2 years can act as a factory on Alibaba.

Recently Alibaba started making this more or less obvious in the videos they create for their verified suppliers. Under a supplier’s “Company Overview” Page, you should be able to see Alibaba’s verification video. If the supplier is a trader, on the lower right side of the video you should see either “Supplier’s company” or “Supplier’s Associate Company”. So this is something to remember if working factory direct is crucial for you.

As we mentioned in another video, traders sometimes can also act as a manufacturer’s dealer on Alibaba, because it’s easier for factories to just have an agent bring constant orders. The manufacturer allows them to use the company name or even bring customers to the factory. As long as the orders are coming in, everyone’s happy. So sometimes even when you found a legit factory on Alibaba, you still might be working through a middleman.
