Ninne, Yarim (lull, my Love)

Ninne, yarim (Lull, my love) came to Azerbaijan in the late 1950s. It was brought by the Iraqi radio journalist Sinan Sayid who was contracted by Azerbaijan Radio in 1958 for work in the Arab section of the radio. The song was performed by a wonderful Azerbaijani female singer Narmin Mammadova in a duet with Sinan Sayid. Kerkük for centuries has been populated by Turks who speak in the Kerkük dialect of the Azerbaijani language. "Ninne, yarim" is performed to a folk quatrain geraily, an 8-syllable poetic form.
