Our team is always on the lookout for something new and the Indian River Lagoon is a treasure trove of discoveries. This unique ecosystem is home to over 4,300 species of plants and animals, including more than 600 species of fish, 300 species of birds, and numerous species of invertebrates, mammals, and reptiles.

In addition to its diverse wildlife, the Indian River Lagoon supports a variety of habitats, including salt marshes, tidal flats, and oyster reefs. These habitats provide essential ecosystem services, such as filtering water, stabilizing shorelines, and supporting commercial and recreational fisheries.

Despite its ecological significance, the Indian River Lagoon faces numerous threats, including pollution, habitat loss, and climate change. Efforts to protect and restore this valuable ecosystem are essential to ensuring the continued health and vitality of the lagoon and its inhabitants.

By conducting restoration research in the field and in our lab facilities, our team is working to develop solutions to protect and preserve our coastal ecosystems.
