After hearing the 1999 recording of his marimba concerto, Ney Rosauro selected the University of Calgary Wind Ensemble for these premiere recordings of his concerti for percussion and wind ensemble.

The Concerto for Timpani and Wind Ensemble was originally composed in 2003 for Timpani with string orchestra. This version, dedicated to soloist/conductor Glenn Price and the University of Calgary Wind Ensemble, was arranged specially for this recording. Rosauro states "my main concern was to explore the melodic abilities that are unique to the timpani, rather than have the usual fast drumming patterns that could be applied just as well to tom-toms. This, as well as the tuning changes, adds difficulty to the concerto with requires a great deal of musicality from the soloist.” The three movements are each in a distinct style, from classical, to lyrical, and finally light-heartedly energetic, representing a unique showcase for an instrument not commonly featured in concerti.
