People have long been enjoying the first signs of spring blossom in the gardens at Coethele, a Tudor house perched high above the River Tamar in Cornwall.
At the turn of the 20th century paddle steamers from Plymouth would travel up the River Tamar to the upper reaches of the Tamar valley so passengers could see the first blooms of cherry blossom in the estate’s orchards. Cotehele, now in the care of the National Trust, is still a special place to take in the sights, sounds and colours of spring.
Watch this video for a tour of the blossoming orchard and surrounding gardens, where daffodils and tulips are in full bloom. You’ll also learn about the work being done to preserve several historic varieties of apples so they can be enjoyed in and around Cornwall for years to come.
Blossom is a welcome sign spring has arrived and there are many different varieties to spot. Discover the best places to see blossom near you: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visi...
