The problem was this shower valve started leaking at the handle, this is a sign that the o ring gaskets have worn out and lost the water tight seal. It’s time to replace this Moen shower valve cartridge with a brand new one. There are ways to replace just the o-rings, but usually it’s a better idea to go ahead and replace the whole shower valve.

This video shows the Moen 1200 shower faucet cartridge being replaced. This would be very similar to replacing the moen faucet valve for a bathroom sink faucet. This method to remove the moen faucet cartridge will be the same for Moen cartridges 1200, 1222 and 1225 single handle faucet valve cartridges.
