This video reinterprets Jeffrey Epstein’s infamous island from an unusual philosophical perspective by combining the artwork of René Magritte with images and ideas taken from the successful TV Series “Breaking Bad”.

The bright blue skies of New Mexico appear like an extra character in “Breaking Bad” and “Baby Blue” is the title of the final song played out at the very end of the series as the main character, Walter White, lies dying at the culmination of his career change from high school chemistry teacher to drug king. It refers to the trademark colour Walter used to market his product, but more than this, it suggests that Walter’s criminally-applied expertise created an endeavour that gave his life meaning and purpose.

I use this idea to emphasize the difference between a life of no moral limits – Epstein/Walter White’s blue sky thinking – and one informed by art. I argue that art enables you to reflect actively upon rather than just be passively reflected by your possessions and pursuits.
