The climate crisis is here, and our students are ready to lead the charge. Schools need foundational climate education. This talk highlights the crucial role their support plays in combating misinformation and preparing future leaders, making educators feel their role is vital. We'll explore the barriers teachers face and introduce a powerful, grassroots solution: the Illinois Climate Education Hub.
Mahima is a student at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy and a passionate youth environmental activist. She is an active member of It’s Our Future and serves on the Youth Climate Advisory Board for Climate Education in Illinois, where she played a key role in helping pass the state’s climate education bill. Beyond legislation, Mahima has organized climate strikes, worked on school sustainability policies, and coordinated Youth Climate Mixers with It’s Our Future. Through her work, she emphasizes the power of collective action and strives to bring together people from diverse backgrounds to create meaningful change.
