Since recording I have learned that the darker green figures were from a 1962 “Operation Moon Base” set (or one of its simplified 1960s variants "Moon Base" and "Project Apollo Moon Landing") and the lighter green figures were from a 1972/1977 “Giant Martian Landing” set. The speculation on cereal premiums is not correct, and the only one confirmed as a premium is the blue dude. Marx used the same alien & robot molds from their 1950s “Tom Corbett”, “Space Patrol” and “Rex Mars” era and other than the type + color of plastic used the figures are identical including size. The aliens and robot were only cast in green for the "Operation Moon Base" related sets & "Giant Martian Landing". And I guess if you get down to brass tacks it is correct to refer to any green castings of these figures as "Operation Moon Base" pieces as the nuance of the color variation is only manifest when seeing them side by side. Missing is the big eared alien, a form I've not been drawn to and am holding out for an example in the same price range as these were vended at.
