I take a look at the tried and true concept of using oneshot/hit samples I've grabbed from various vintage-aged songs, loaded them into Maschine, and then creating new song ideas and sounds for use in existing productions.

In this video I use Maschine, but any DAW that supports a 16-pad method to create will work.

Sampling has been a staple in music for decades now and still remains a great way to generate new ideas and sonics you might not be able to create on your own.

Each week I record about 3 hours of music. I'll go through each track looking for something unique I can use - kicks, snares, hi-hats, bass hit, percussive sound, etc...

The next step is to load them into Maschine, clean up the top & tail (start and finish of the oneshot), add FX and processing and then colour code everything and get it organized ready for use. From there I try to create a variety of musical ideas. In this video, I'm trying Downtempo, Hip-hop, Jungle, Roots, and Steppers Style Reggae. Each one is an 8-bar sequence. Once I've got some ideas down, I'll export the loops where I have a few options: build a new song around a strong 8-bar idea, try layering them into existing tracks I have on the go or save them in a folder for future use.
(tip: only keep ideas and loops that you think are worth keeping. If the sound or loop doesn't excite you - delete it)
