Why stupid people think they are more smart?
First, their lack of skill, definition, makes it difficult to produce correct responses and, thus, they make many mistakes. Second, this very same lack of skill also deprives them of success at the metacognitive task of recognizing when a particular decision is a correct or an incorrect one.
The Dunning-Kruger effect suggests that when we don't know something, we aren't aware of our own lack of knowledge. In other words, we don't know what we don't know. Think about it
People measurably poor at logical reasoning, grammar, financial knowledge, math, emotional intelligence, running medical lab tests, and chess all tend to rate their expertise almost as favorably as actual experts do.
