A new record was also set for the hottest February day, with 21.2C (70F) seen in London.  The last decade was the second hottest in the past 100 years, with a total of eight high-temperature records broken. Experts have warned the extreme weather is "a consequence of our warming climate" - and said more records could be set as the climate crisis continues. The 10 years from 2010 to 2019 were the second warmest and second wettest decade in the country over the past century, slightly behind 2000 to 2009.  The 2010s also saw the highest UK daily maximum temperature records set for February, July, October, November and provisionally for December.  Further records for highest daily minimum temperature were set for January, February and April between 2010 and 2019.  This compared to just one low-temperature record during this decade, with the Beast from the East in 2018 leading to the coldest March day on record with a maximum temperature of -4.7C (23.54F) recorded at Tredegar in South Wales. Dr Mark McCarthy, head of the National Climate Information Centre, said: "It is notable how many of these extreme records have been set in the most recent decade and how many more of them are reflecting high rather than low-temperature extremes: a consequence of our warming climate. "We are expecting the warming trend to continue through the 21st century and we would expect these sorts of records subsequently to be broken in the future."  Warmest years in the UK since 1910 - mean average temperature: 1. 2014 - 9.91C2. 2006 - 9.73C3. 2011 - 9.64C4. 2007 - 9.59C5. 2017 - 9.56C6. 2003 - 9.50C7. 2018 - 9.49C8. 2004 - 9.47C9. 2002 - 9.47C10. 2005 - 9.45C11. 2019 - 9.42C The year has also been the 11th wettest year on record, with mean average rainfall of 1,240.1mm. The highest mean average rainfall was 1,337.3mm in 2000. Dr McCarthy added: "We are expecting to see an increase in winter rainfall, so wetter winters and drier summers - but we could still experience some dry winters and wet summers."  Wettest years in the UK since 1910 - mean average temperature: 1. 2000 - 1,337.3mm2. 2012 - 1,334.8mm3. 1954 - 1,309.1mm4. 2014 - 1,300.5mm5. 2008 - 1,295.0mm6. 2002 - 1,283.7mm7. 2015 - 1,272.4mm8. 1998 - 1,267.1mm9. 1928 - 1,258.5mm10. 1912 - 1,242.0mm11. 2019 - 1,240.1mm A government spokesman said climate change was a "national priority" and it is committed to increasing the momentum around environmental action.
