Now that the game has pointed it out I can definitely see Apricot Hill being situated in the Japanese countryside.
Don't ask me what I think makes a countryside 'Japanese'. All the green maybe? I dunno, it's a feeling I guess. A feeling that Polyphony obviously felt too.
