Turkey has long controlled access to the Turkish Straits as part of the Montreux Convention. Made up of the Dardanelles and the Bosphorus, the Turkish Straits are a strategic chokepoint, but could Turkey use the straits as a deterrent against Russia as Putin considers an invasion of Ukraine?
