Joliet, Illinois - Let's Explore Joliet Iron Works Historic Site Together 7.20.24

Good morning from Joliet, Illinois! This morning we are exploring the Joliet Iron Works Historic Site together. Joliet is a far southwest suburb of Chicago, and back in the late 1800’s and into the 1900’s, this piece of land was the site of an iron manufacturing facility.

Today we’re going to check out this nature preserve - part of the Forest Preserve District of Will County - where some of the dismantled factory foundations for the blast furnaces can still be seen on the grounds, as well as some other cultural resources that have been saved from the old structures. This historic site provides a self-guided tour of the factory ruins, and is free of charge. The preserve also connects to the much larger I&M Canal Trail system.

So let’s get out there and check this place out! I’ve never been here and I will be seeing this piece of history with you all for the first time.
