Lord Nandi is one of the supreme devotees of God Shiva and it is believed that the family of Shiva or Shiva Parivar is incomplete without Nandi. Worship of Lord Shiva is also incomplete without revering Nandi. Basically, Lord Nandi is the Vahana or vehicle of God Shiva and the gatekeeper of his abode (along with Mahakal). The Nandi bull of Lord Shiva symbolizes perseverance & patience and is worshipped for power & dedication. This Bull is a most powerful warrior with head of 18 Siddhas and also Guru of Lord Kartikeya.

As per the legends, the dedication of Lord Nandi towards Lord Shiva is such that Lord Shiva is Nandi and Nandi is Lord Shiva. Story of Lord Nandi :-
As per the legends, Nandi is the son of the sage Shilada. The Sage Shilada perform severe penance to have a boon of a child with immortality & blessings of God Shiva and received Nandi as his son. He grew as an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and he performs penance to become his Vahan (vehicle) and gate-keeper. In various Puranas, there are numerous stories dedicated to Nandi Bull of Lord Shiva. There are also many temples which solely dedicated to Nandi.

According to Puranas, Lord Nandi or Nandikeshvara is described as a Deity with a bull face and human body but can take any form of animal or human. Nandi Ji is also blessing lots of devotees by conveying the wishes of the devotees to Lord Mahadev and Mata Parvati. There is a legend in Shiva Purana where Lord Mahadev and Mata Parvati has given a boon to Nandi Ji that whatever wishes of the devotees come through Nandi Ji, they will surely be fulfilled. The devotees slowly speak out their wishes in the ears of the Nand Ji in several Shiva temples and Jyotirlingas. Nandi Ji conveys the same to Mahadev and Parvati Ji and wishes are fulfilled.
