In 1943 Lieutenant JA Spender Royal Navy, aged 23, took his new S Class submarine SIRDAR to sea for some work up trials. All did not go well but with professionalism, leadership and pride the captain and his young crew worked together to save themselves and their submarine. Together they served till the end of the war.
