Law and Mental Health: Pitfalls of Psychopathy Assessment in Forensic Settings and the Movements towards Dimensional Systems of Diagnosis -Jaime Anderson, PhD, Anthony Perillo, PhD

Dr. Jaime Anderson is an associate professor of psychology at Sam Houston State University. Dr. Anderson completed her B.A. in Psychology and German at the University of Dayton and her M.S. in Clinical Psychology at Eastern Kentucky University. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Alabama with a specialization in psychology and the law and completed her predoctoral internship at Patton State Hospital. Her research focuses broadly on the assessment of psychopathology, with much of her work emphasizing the assessment of personality disorders. Dr. Anderson is an Associate Editor for the journal Psychological Assessment and has published over 60 papers and book chapters in the areas of personality psychopathology, broadband assessment, and forensic psychology. She is a licensed psychologist in Texas and maintains a private forensic practice in which she primarily conducts competency to stand trial, mental state at the time of the offense, and mitigation evaluations.

Learning Objectives:
1. Recite limitations in the assessment of psychopathy in forensic settings. 2. Describe alternative dimensional conceptualizations of personality dysfunction, including the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD) in the DSM-5. 3. Discuss the application of dimensional models of personality disorder to the assessment of psychopathy.
