Rebuild the Temple as of old and establish Thy sanctuary upon its ancient site.
While visiting the Holy Land for the second time in 1935, Rabbi Saul was so inspired by the rebuilding of the Holy Land that one day he spontaneously burst into singing Bneh veyskho. No sooner had he introduced this niggen at a Khassidic gathering in Jerusalem, than it virtually swept the country, being sung both by the ultra-orthodox and he modern pioneer.
These recordings also exist under the name "Sholosh R'golim" - Modzitzer Melodies, Chassidic Melodies of the Three Festivals by the Rabbis of Modzitz as sung by the Modzitzer Choral Ensemble - Benzion Shenker (soloist), Elliot Birnbaum (director) - under the record label "Neginah Records", Brooklyn N.Y. Hebrew title: מועדים לשמחה - ניגוני מודזיץ
The members of the Modzitzer Choral Ensemble were: Akiva Besser, Yaacov Brown, Rafael Kestenbaum, Yitzchok Kin, Hershel Millet, Joseph Newman, Velvel Pasternak, BenZion Shenker, Chaim B. Shenker, Hershel Waldman
Musical arrangements and accompaniment: Herbert Rothgarber, "Tal" based on an arrangement by Herman Zalis
Technical director: H. Stambler

The death of Elliot Birnbaum, musical director of the Modzitzer Chorus, came with abrupt suddenness on 19 Teveth 5718 (10 or 11th Jan, 1958). Only twenty-eight, he was in the midst of many activities. Apart from acting as director, accompanist, and commentator for the Modzitzer chorus, he was an instructor in history at the City College of New York and at Hunter College and was writing his doctoral dissertation at Columbia University. He had begun the recording for the "Three Festivals" when the tragedy of his death occured.
His leadership inspired the Modzitzer chorus to new heights of self-disciplined artistry, unusual among Khassidim. He had caught the Khassidic spirit of spontaneous gladness and warmth, and was instrumental in helping to transmit it to the general public.
He loved the ways of the Jewish people and was beloved by all who knew him. תנצב''ה To his memory this record is dedicated. D.S.
