About Jan Suraaj:
The Jan Suraaj Padyatra is the means to complete Jan Suraaj’s mission to bring transformational change in Bihar by strengthening participatory democracy. By bringing together: (a) Sahi Log (right people); (b) Sahi Soch (right thought); and (c) Samuhik Prayaas (collective action) this yatra aims to establish a new alternate political system so that Bihar can make a place for itself in the 10 most developed states of the country in the coming years.

In a bid to prepare the ground for Jan Suraaj, this 3000km Padyatra will begin on the 2nd of October 2022 from the Gandhi Ashram in Paschim Champaran with an aim to reach not just every district but all the blocks and panchayats of the state.

The political debate in Bihar, instead of focussing on caste-based issues alone, should focus on the state of (un)employment, lack of economic and social development , and becoming vocal about the real problems on the ground. The idea behind the 3,000 km Padyatra is to take the idea of Jan Suraaj across the state of Bihar and connect with people who are development-oriented and want to establish a system of issue-based politics in the state with collective actions.

3 Elements of Jan Suraaj
Sahi Log: A small body of determined spirits fired by an unending faith in their mission can alter the course of history. Citizens who represent and live the ground realities of the country. Those who aim to dedicate their lives and future to the prosperity of their land. Who understand the local issues and have committed to solving problems at their level. And most importantly, they are those who have the enthusiasm to lead transformational change.

Sahi Soch: The truth is that power resides in the people and it is entrusted for the time being to those whom they may choose as their representatives. The only path towards achieving holistic development of the nation is through Good Governance. ‘Good Governance’ is not of a single party or individual but of its people- Jan Suraaj (People’s Good Governance).

Samuhik Prayaas: True democracy cannot be worked by twenty men sitting at the center. It has to be worked from below by the people of every village. For people in a Democracy a political party or a platform is a tool for cultivating collective action (Samuhik Prayaas) for betterment of the society. Jan Suraaj is putting forth an idea of a political platform that is formed on the basis of Samuhik prayaas (collective action) allowing people to work towards the progress of the nation. People associated with this platform will have the free will to decide whether this movement turns into a political party or not. And if it is formed, what the party's name should be, what its constitution should be and essentially, what is the party’s vision and who will lead this party. By not revolving around a single person or a family, the collective decision of one's political fate will indeed be Samuhik Prayaas.
