Indigenous rangers say the island's wongari (dingoes) are losing their fear of humans, which has led to a spike in attacks, including a jogger who was recently mauled by a pack of the wild animals.

Speculation around the rise in attacks includes a myth the predator's natural food supply has dried up, which Butchulla ranger Darren Blake says is not true. The problem is actually people visiting K'gari.

"From deliberately feeding, to calling animals over to try and get their photos, and even pushing their kids in the path of a dingo to get those photos; it's extremely inappropriate," ranger Linda Behrendorff said.
