What is Central Serous Retinopathy | Symptoms, Prevention, Treatment and More

Central serous retinopathy is an eye condition in which fluid builds up behind the retina and affects your vision. The retina is a thin, sensitive layer of tissue in the back of the eye. It converts light into neural signals that are sent to the brain. It helps you recognise the images you see.
The buildup of fluid can cause a partial detachment of the retina. Sometimes the condition, also known as Central Serous Chorioretinopathy (CSC), corrects itself without treatment. But the sooner you recognise a change in your vision and have the problem diagnosed, the greater the odds of having a full recovery with no permanent vision loss.

Usually affects one eye but can develop in both eyes over the time.
It’s condition in which fluid builds up behind the retina and affects vision.
Men are more vulnerable to the disease than women.
It affects men in their mid age.

Causes of CSR
Though the exact cause is not known but it is found that stress is the primary cause.
Stress tends to produce higher level of stress hormone cortisol that causes leakage behind the retina.

Symptoms of CSR
Blurry vision in the affected eye.
Darkness in central vision
Distorted vision.
Objects may seem farther away than they really are.
White objects appear dull.
Symptoms occur only if the fluid affects the macula.

Risk factors of CSR
Stressed lifestyle.
Use of steroid medicine
Pregnancy
Cushing syndrome exposure to high cortisol level.

Prevention of CSR
Avoid taking corticosteroids and other drugs containing steroids,
Avoid caffeine.
Adequate sleep at least for seven hours a day.

If you notice any changes in your vision- blurred vision, problem in central vision etc.
