Molisch's Test for Carbohydrates 2.0

Описание к видео Molisch's Test for Carbohydrates 2.0

Molisch's Test is used to identify a Carbohydrate.
5 drop of Molisch Reagent (alpha-naphthol) was added to 2 mL of each sample.
2 mL of Sulfuric Acid was gently added to each test tube to layer the 2 solutions.
It is important not to mix the 2 solutions as the chemical reaction will occur at the interface.
The Sulfuric Acid converted the Carbohydrate into an aldehyde, which will then react with the alpha-naphthol to create a purple or violet colour.

Purple colour change = Carbohydrate
Negative Control = Distilled Water
Positive Control = 1 % (w/v) Glucose
Unknowns Tested = 13

Alphabetical list of Samples all 1% (w/v) or (v/v):
Acetic Acid, Albumin, Arabinose, Fructose, Galactose, Glucose, Glycerol, Glycogen, Lactose, Maltose, Starch, Sucrose, Xylose
