Bumpy snailfish is a deep-sea fish recently described from the hadal zone of the North Pacific, living around 7,000–8,000 meters deep.

It has a soft, gelatinous body that helps it withstand extreme pressure, and it likely feeds on small invertebrates on the seafloor.

The “death-ball” sponge is a deep-sea carnivorous sponge with a roughly spherical shape, whose tentacle-like structures trap tiny crustaceans.

Instead of filtering water like typical sponges, it digests captured prey externally over time.

Marmosa chachapoya is a newly described species of mouse opossum from the cloud forests of the northern Peruvian Andes, at an elevation of around 2,660–2,700 meters

It has reddish-brown dorsal fur, a narrow snout, and a dark, mask-like pattern around the eyes, with a body about 4 inches long and a tail that is even longer.

The species is named after the ancient Chachapoya people who lived in the same region, and so far it is known from only a single collected specimen.
