Vitamin C is also called ascorbic acid. It is an antioxidant used in collagen synthesis, and iron absorption.

A deficiency leads to scurvy presenting with:
swollen gums, hemarthrosis, anemia, poor wound healing, perifollicular and subperiosteal hemorrhages, corkscrew hair, and weakened immune response

Excess vitamin C leads to nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis, and an increased risk of iron toxicity.
