Can osu! become an esport?

With every multiplayer video game comes a competitive scene. From originally starting out being an emulator for a ds game. osu! has evolved to be a staple in the rhythm game genre, as well as the community developing its own small competitive scene which has years of history and stories from countless legends and moments. It has already created a niche part of the community that participates and follows competitive osu, but is it realistic to see the competitive side get any bigger.

I enjoy watching osu tournaments so I would like to see the game get bigger but other problems exist that prevent the game from growing
