Riding and leading, also known as "Ponying" which i think comes from the practice of leading race horses to where the need to be on busy racecourse days.
Its such a useful thing to get good at, which like everything just takes practice.
Why do it ? To exercise several horses at once, take field companions out together, support a nervous rider or horse, keep a horse who cant be ridden fit, help nervous youngsters by seeing the rider above them and moving and much more... I am sure i forgot some reasons, why not add a comment here about your favourite reasons to ride and lead ?
My favourite without a doubt is imagining I am heading off into the wilderness, just me, my horse and 2 pack horses carrying everything we need to survive... indefinitely
I think i need to get to that one asap... before I get really old LOL
In the meantime Morisco and I will be practicing our guiding with legs only while Umo and I get to some more groundwork with the rope and halter.
