The National Cadet Corps (NCC) offers comprehensive mountaineering courses for its cadets. These courses, which include the Basic Mountaineering Course and the Advanced Mountaineering Course, provide a solid foundation for aspiring mountaineers. The courses cover a range of topics, from basic techniques of movement on rock, snow, and ice, to theoretical and practical aspects of mountaineering, such as map reading, navigation, weather, medicine, and mountain hygiene. Since 1970, the NCC has conducted 75 mountaineering expeditions, with cadets scaling mountains like Mt Rudugaira, Mt Deo Tibba, Mt Gangotri I, and Mt Kamet. These courses not only equip cadets with essential mountaineering skills but also instil values of discipline, teamwork, and self-reliance.
