The SJCAM SJ8 Pro is on theory among the most serious Gopro Hero 6 challengers after the Yi 4K Plus and perhaps the Sony FDR X3000.
Usually the first and the last impressions are the most important. Therefore – straight to the unboxing: There are three different models released altogether – the AIR, the plus and the PRO. And we are reviewing the highest possible configuration here, which costs 289 USD. Quite steep for a budget-friendly brand.

The build quality of the camera is good. There is an excellent secondary display on the front – and it delivers a lot of information, despite its small size. And remains well visible, no matter how intensive the light around is.
Thanks to all the power problems I’ve experienced, you have a confirmation that the SJ7 battery is in fact compatible with the SJCAM SJ8 Pro, although it is not that wide. You can notice that the new model is overall wider than last year’s SJCAM device, it is a bit heavier, although the body is all plastic.
Of course the screen is touch, and the digitizer is significantly better tha what we got in 2017. The camera is powered by the new Ambarella H22 chipset, and the SONY IMX377 sensor, the same as in yi 4k+. A lot of upgrades so far.

Resolution support goes as high as 120FPS on full HD, which is SJ7 star’s best achievement for that resolution. Unfortunately nothing higher than 60fps on 2.7K.
