Sanzi & Maoerduo: Qinghai Bread Snacks PART 1

Moving to rural Qinghai has taught me so much about food. I have found new ways of cooking, new things to cook, and also a new kind of respect that comes only after understanding how much goes in to the growing, harvesting and preparation of the food.

The staple food of Qinghai is wheat and potatoes, much like my home country Sweden. But the ways to cook it is completely different. In this video I share 4 different kinds of wheat products - all made from wheat and water, with a few extra ingredients, and cooked in oil. The names of the products are: Sanzi (馓子), Maoerduo (猫耳朵, which funnily means cat's ears), Mahua (麻花) and Youbing (油饼, oil cake).
