You have heard term Ozempic Face. What is Ozempic Face? New York City Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Matthew Schulman, discusses this new term. Ozempic Face refers to facial fat loss that can be seen in people who have recently lost significant weight, such as in those taking Ozempic, Semaglutide, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepbound....and more medications coming soon!
These medications are diabetes medications that are now being used in non-diabetics for weight loss. When you lose weight, you also lose fat in your face. This can lead to hollowing of the cheeks and temples, and an overall "aged" appearance. Correction involves adding volume back to the areas using fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, or Sculptra. Other options include fat injections, laser and radiofrequency treatment, and even surgical facelifts.
While "Ozempic Face" is based on the current popularity of these weight loss medications, it can be used to describe the facial appearance of weight loss from any method like diet and exercise, or bariatric surgery such as gastric bypass and gastric sleeve. Anything that causes you to lose fat from your face, can cause facial sagging and deflation.

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, meaning that it mimics the action of the human incretin glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), thereby increasing insulin secretion and increasing blood sugar disposal and improving glycemic control.
