I am Der Geher and this time it's Moorfleet in the Bergedorf borough. Starting at the Billwerder-Moorfleet train station, I walk along Unterer Landweg. This major road is followed by a row of detached houses and a white half-timbered church along the Sandwish. Some more industry follows along the Billwerder Bay with the timber harbor. The route ends at the Moorfleeter Canal.
Moorfleet, already mentioned in 1162, had to suffer a lot. Damp ground made farming difficult - hops and malt were grown for beer. Moorfleet was largely destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. As well as during numerous storm surges in the 18th century. During the French period, Moorfleet was burned down for a firing range and bombed by the Allies in 1944. Emerging recreation was spun off. An industrial estate is now Billbrook and the population is now in Rothenburgsort. Moorfleet is now very sparsely populated with around 1,000 inhabitants.
