When we initially met with our clients, they explained that their home’s layout was unpractical and that it was conflicting with the enjoyment of their living space. One of
their biggest concerns was that they loved hosting big dinner parties for their children
and grandchildren; however, the living space in the kitchen was limited and would not allow for everyone to enjoy their time together in their favorite room.

Although the house had a lounge area, the family barely used it and rather spent their
time in the kitchen because that is where the home cooked meals and baking was
done. Enjoying the meals prepared in that kitchen was one of many reasons why the
children loved visiting. With this background in mind, the Design Team set to work to find
a solution.

A key feature of the design was the raised portion of the main floor where the original kitchen was above the lounge area, including a wall that separated the kitchen and the dining room. In order to create a more spacious kitchen, the Design Team had the challenging task of re-configuring the existing floor plan. By moving the kitchen to opposite ends of the house, a larger space was secured, which also allowed for a better flow of traffic, better lighting, and greater storage space. The new design offered a practical yet elegant kitchen and we, and most importantly the clients, were pleased with the results.
