Buddha Jayanti in Lumbini, the first of the four Holy Buddhist Pilgrimages!

Описание к видео Buddha Jayanti in Lumbini, the first of the four Holy Buddhist Pilgrimages!

This year, Baisakh 27 (May 10) was the 2561st Buddha Jayanti. So, we head on to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha to discover and explore the celebrations and events that take place there on that day.

Pilgrims and travelers from various parts of the world, gather in Lumbini on this auspicious day to pay respect to the Light of Asia, Lord Buddha in his birthplace. Buddhist Monks and Hindu sadhus alike, are seen meditating or chanting mantras in the periphery of Lumbini.

Every year, around a hundred and fifty thousand people visit Lumbini mostly from countries like China, Myanmar, Thailand, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, and other European and American continents.

There's something we noticed immediately when we were there, among the visitors, there were more International tourists than Nepalese people. And it raises a serious, if we feel so proud that Lord Buddha was born in Nepal, why aren't we there? Or do we just repeat that Phase and get agitated when India/Indian Serials claim it otherwise.

Vandalizing the streets, venting anger towards countrymen who share similarities with India, posting status in facebook, reporting pages and waving "Buddha was born in Nepal" flags in cricket and football matches, is it worth it?

It's a crystal clear fact that needs no more debate, and impulsive agitation. Instead, why aren't we visiting Lumbini? Why aren't we celebrating this day with more festivity? Why are we taking this as just another holiday? A question we need to ask ourselves.

We are thankful to Mr. Siddhartha Maharjan (Bhikshu Nigrodha, Vice Chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust), Mr. Anil Keshari Shah for sharing their thoughts, Mr. Samir Limbu for providing us with the Sakela Footage, another important festival on this day, Nepal Board for the assistance, and express our gratitude to Anurag Dhoop Industries, our sponsors, without whom this trip wouldn't have been possible.
