Google's NotebookLM is now available as a mobile app on the Play Store, bringing its AI-powered note-taking features to smartphones. Users can access and manage their notebooks, upload content from various sources—like YouTube, PDFs, websites, or copied text—and ask questions with AI-generated answers that include inline citations.

Adding sources is integrated across Android: from any app with a share button, users can send content directly to NotebookLM. Currently, three input types are supported, with more expected in future updates.

A standout feature is the ability to convert content into conversational audio, allowing users to listen to their notes as a back-and-forth dialogue between two AI hosts. During playback, users can ask follow-up questions and receive real-time responses. These audio overviews can also be downloaded and played offline in the background, without needing to keep the app open.

In Google’s demo, a small business owner used the app to centralize manuals and free himself from repetitive questions by enabling employees to get answers on their own.

Limitations remain. The mobile version does not yet support mind maps—a feature available on the web—and users have reported audio duration limits, especially in non-English languages. Google has acknowledged these issues and indicated that improvements are underway.

The mobile release signals Google’s broader intent to make NotebookLM a cross-device, AI-powered productivity tool.
