Design of CV QKD systems – Dr. Igor Koltchanov, Director Technology at VPIphotonics, is presenting the highlights of his talk given at the EPIC World Industrial Quantum Photonics Technology Summit in Barcelona in June 2019. The video explains how a classical simulation framework can be applied for modeling quantum communications with focus on weak-coherent CV QKD protocols. In particular, simulations can be used to choose from various implementation options for QKD systems and subsystems, to study coexistence scenarios with classical channels in the presence of Raman scattering and crosstalk, to consider component imperfections such as thermal and quantization noise, RIN, and phase noise, to optimize the modulation amplitude and other system parameters, to select efficient post-processing algorithms, to estimate maximum possible key rates, and to support the quantum chip design using specialized Process Design kits.
