The Loneliest Mission in California - Mission San Antonio de Padua

Описание к видео The Loneliest Mission in California - Mission San Antonio de Padua

Located in California's Monterey County, nearly 30 miles from the closest city, is Mission San Antonio de Padua, the most remote of the state's 21 Spanish missions. Dating back to 1771, the mission's remote location has kept the area from changing much over the last couple centuries.

Mission San Antonio de Padua was the third Spanish mission built in what was then known as Alta California. On July 14, 1771, Father Junipero Serra entered the Valley of the Oaks and established the mission. By 1810, construction had begun on the mission's third church and the site looks little changed today.

The mission is accessed off Highway 101 by traveling through Fort Hunter Liggett. The mission does have a museum and a small gift shop.
