There are moments in Chopin's enigmatic Polonaise-Fantaisie when the notes begin to border on abstraction, which is precisely where the piece's magic lies.

Similar to other larger-scale works of his late period, it's quite harmonically advanced and showcases him becoming increasingly more experimental.

It's one of those pieces in his catalog that makes you wonder how his music would have sounded if he lived, say, a decade or two longer.

This particular moment in the piece is what I can only describe as a subtle "climax" of sorts in the spiritual sense.

There's just something completely transcendent and uniquely ambiguous within the Polonaise-Fantaisie that separates it from his other work (only the barcarolle, and at times the late scherzos, come close to that sensation).
