Previews broadly agree that the game is less accommodating, with sharper punishment for mistakes and a stronger emphasis on mastery over flexibility. Several outlets also note that the new, larger mission spaces change the pacing of encounters, though how well this structure ultimately serves Nioh’s combat remains unclear.

At the same time, concerns are recurring. Performance was inconsistent across preview builds, difficulty spikes were widely mentioned, and the open-zone approach is still not fully explained, leaving open questions about flow, repetition, and balance.
