BC3 Park and Recreation Management students completed the first of three days of swiftwater rescue training. This iteration taught students the fundamentals of water dynamics, defensive and aggressive swimming tactics, swiftwater entries, throw bags, moving water crossings and the double line floating tether technique.

All training is part of the PA Fish and Boat Commissions water rescue program. By the end of the semester, students will have completed the following curriculums:

1. Water Rescue for the First Responder – NFPA 1670 Awareness Level
2. Water Rescue and Emergency Response – NFPA 1670 Operations Level
3. Advanced Line Systems Rescue – NFPA 1670 Technician Level
4. Ice Rescue and Emergency Response – NFPA 1670 Technician Level
This training prepares students for careers with resource management agencies, outfitters, rescue organizations and provides for their own personal safety when on the water.
