In this video I explain how you could receive a £2,500 fine on a valid MOT certificate.

Many motorists on the road these days don't fully understand how the MOT certificate works and the legalities behind it. The fact you can take your renewal one month prior to the expiry date is not common knowledge and especially that if this option was chosen, you would have 13 months out of the new MOT certificate.

This could also pose a great issue for the motorist if the renewal was to fail on a serious fault. Due to the fact all MOTs are registered on the database, the DVLA and the Police will be aware of the failure and the motorist could receive a, on the spot fine of £100 and 3 points or be taken to court and end up paying £2,500. It is also wise to mention that for each fault on the vehicle, the motorist could also receive 3 points which could quickly turn into a bad of driver/riding.

The Pro's definitely out weigh the Cons with taking the test early but its definitely best to get all faults fixed before attempting to use the vehicle again, even with one month left on the old MOT Test Certificate.
