Triple threat to combat weeds

Sow early and increase crop seeding density. That’s the message from weed researchers investigating the best way to beat ryegrass across Australia’s southern grain growing region.

Traditionally many growers have waited for weeds to emerge after opening rains and applying a knockdown herbicide, before seeding the crop.

But four years of trials across the southern region have consistently shown it’s better to sow early and increase the crop seeding density to suppress weeds, and do this in conjunction with herbicide.
