A fast and clean seal rescue: spotted, netted, cut free, released. We perform this process over and over again, sometimes several times a day. But no matter how streamlined the rescue may be, it’s just a temporary fix for a much larger crisis.
We’re treating symptoms, not the disease. The disease is a broken system of overfishing, poor waste management, and an industry that looks away from its own collateral damage. Every piece of rope, every loop of line, every plastic scrap left behind is a potential death sentence for marine life.
When fish stocks are gone and plastic lingers for decades more, even supporters of industrial fishing must ask themselves: isn't this a crime?
