Wisdom and Knowledge Management: Maximizing Our Productive Value

In recent years there have been numerous publications dealing with knowledge
management, but the superior concept of “wisdom” is rarely mentioned.
Furthermore, almost exclusive emphasis has been placed on proposing different
new strategies and principles for “successfully” accomplishing tasks. The “lost
art” of doing things right in business, education or government is rarely discussed
in the vast amount of literature dealing with sophisticated productivity
approaches, efficiency and profit.

This exciting videoconference will present the concept of wisdom as knowledge
with a long (if not timeless) shelf-life. Strategies for the management of
knowledge should thus have a longer-term focus, striving to optimize the key
functional areas (from management to client service). The distinguished invited
speakers will discuss different uses of the concept of wisdom in a productive
setting. Being wise is certainly a good deal more than just having the ability to
recycle wisdom. We must all ensure that wisdom, as a critical element of longterm success, can be passed on more effectively among individuals and
organizations of different generations.

The concept of identifying and utilizing wisdom or timeless principles to make
organizations successful takes on a unique twist at the dawn of the 21st Century.
Ironically, we need to go back in time, to abandon the ways of doing business
most associated with 20th-Century organizations, and to re-adopt late 19th and
early 20th-Century success principles or practical wisdom.
