Mortgage Rates are up substantially since this time in 2021. While the Bank of Canada has not raised interest rates in the past year, the banks and other mortgage lenders have raised interest rates substantially.

With insured, insurable and uninsurable rates all up over 1 percent, many have been predicting even further rate hikes once the Bank of Canada finally does raise their rate in March (expectedly).

Despite the rise in interest rates Canada’s real estate market continued to set record price growth in 2021, and by all accounts Canada’s housing prices show no signs of slowing in 2022. With some housing markets up 10 percent already the rise in rates over the past year have had minimal impact.

However, as rates continue to rise to the point where they affect mortgage qualification we might start to see real estate prices cool.
