A Robin Hood-like restaurant manager who socks it to the thugs in order to make the mean streets of Hong Kong a little less mean, Big Brother Cheng made his first appearance in the extremely popular The Tea House, the success of which spawned the sequel, Big Brother Cheng. It is a rare case of a sequel outperforming the original at the box office, with Cheng waging a one-man war against drug pushers, rapists, and murderers. The numerous action sequences, staged by acclaimed martial arts instructor Tang Chia, possess a degree of violence that is matched by their inventiveness, and further solidified Chen Kuan-tai's status as one of the hottest stars in Hong Kong movies.
